Abstract Submission & Topics:

Abstracts should address either clinical or basic science aspects of insulin resistance, as related either to overall pathophysiology and/or to key metabolic centers such as the beta cell, adipocyte, gut, and brain.  Clinical topics may include any aspect of insulin resistance and its relationship to the causation and/or natural history of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, dyslipidemia, gonadal dysfunction such as PCOS, gestational diabetes, other endocrine abnormality, inflammation, endothelial or other vascular dysfunction, liver disease (NAFLD), malignancy, and sleep apnea and other sleep disorders in childhood, adolescence and adulthood. The interests of the Congress include multi-hormonal aspects of obesity, incretin and other gut hormonal contributions to energy balance, and circadian rhythm as it relates to these metabolic mechanisms. Basic science studies should include those with specific relationship to insulin action and its regulation at the cellular, organ, or whole body level. 

To demonstrate their conformity to this guideline, the authors are encouraged to include a brief clarification of the relationship of their topic to insulin resistance and/or to the above metabolic processes.

 

  • Scientific materials presented at the 8th  Annual World Congress on Insulin Resistance, Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease must not have been published or presented prior to November 4, 2010 other than in abstract form.
  • All abstracts must be filed electronically and emailed to us (insulinresistance@pacbell.net ), as a Microsoft word document of no more than 250 words saved as rtf (rich text format). Submissions will not be accepted by fax or mail.  
  • Authorship on multiple abstracts is permitted.
  • All materials must arrive on or before the abstract deadline noted above.
  • All submitted materials will be graded by the scientific planning committee The International Committee for Insulin Resistance.
  • Abstracts may be submitted for poster presentation. If selected for poster presentation author is required to register for the congress and to be present during the poster sessions. Awards will be given for the highest-ranking abstracts. The award levels are: Gold, Silver, Bronze and honorable mention. The chosen winning abstracts will orally present their research findings during the Plenary Sessions in a ten minute presentation, to be followed by a five minute period of discussion.
  • If selected for oral presentation an author is required to register for the congress and to be prepared for the oral presentation with a PowerPoint presentation.  Abstracts must be accompanied by a statement from the authors agreeing that, if chosen, they will prepare a poster presentation, and that, if awarded a high ranking, they will prepare an oral presentation.
  • Notification for acceptance will be e-mailed as soon as the committee accepts the abstract.

Travel Grant Announcement
For eligible young International Physicians or Researchers 2010 Poster Session Participants

 

General Information
The WCIR is pleased to offer travel grant program for international Physicians who are practicing outside of the United States of America (USA), The goal of this program is to provide financial support in the form of travel grants (up to $500) to international physicians so they will have an opportunity to present a poster at the 2010 Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, California - on November 4-6, 2010

There will be 3 total grants awarded. Each grant award is based on the following criteria:

 Criteria

  • Applicant must be younger than 35 years of age
  • Applicant is presenting a poster at the 2010 Annual Meeting Poster Session and not have presented prior to November 4, 2010 
  • Participation will have a positive effect on the applicant's career 
  • Past WCIR  “Travel Grant” award recipients are not allowed to apply again
  • Abstract (poster) will have a significant impact on the WCIR Annual Meeting

 

Session's Content
Award Recipients of the International Travel Grant for Physicians will receive an amount, to be determined, for travel expenses (up to $500). The awardees will be notified in writing via e-mail or fax. Please download application
